ABOUT THE COMMUNITY ENERGY BANK (CEB)
The Community Energy Bank (CEB) was founded in 2007 by members of the Shambhala-Shasta Eco Community based in the
Ashland - Mt. Shasta (northern California) area. The CEB is our primary means for relating to each other in regards to
money and finances. The CEB allows our community members (referred to as 'Settlers') to make deposits of cash,
work trade, in-kind trade, co-creative inspiration (ideas), and elementals (precious metals). These deposits
are credited into a Settlers CEB account. Once a Settlers account balance reaches a minimum of 4,000 (units)
then withdrawals can be made.
Our Settlers may make withdrawals from their accounts. These withdrawals can be used to purchase Forest Garden
Domains (land in our community) and buy things at any of our Shambhala community cooperative businesses.
Eventually Settlers will be able to make withdrawals of precious metals in the form of coins of different shapes,
metals and weights that determine the coins value.
In the future all CEB assets, including all Settler accounts will be backed up by precious metals. A Settler may
choose at that time to make a withdrawal from the CEB in the form of precious metal coins and make purchases at
local businesses in the Ashland, Mt. Shasta, Weed and Yreka areas. We will make formal announcements
when we are ready to implement this system.
